It Was Fun To Do A Roddenberry Series, Says Marsters By Caillan September 13, 2001 - 12:29 PM James Marsters (Buffy's Spike) may have signed aboard the Andromeda Ascendant at short notice, but that doesn't mean he didn't have a ball while he was there. "It came very last minute," Marsters told the Sci-Fi Wire, referring to his guest appearance in Andromeda's second season episode 'Into The Labyrinth'. "I was already going to be in Canada doing [VH1's] 'Strange Frequency' and it seemed like fun to do a Gene Roddenberry series. I grew up watching Star Trek, as we all did, so it was fun to put at least a foot in that universe" Although Marsters's character is arrogant and self-absorbed, he finds himself dependant on the Andromeda's crew. "I play [Charlemagne Bolivar], an aristocrat, a genetically perfected person whose people [the Nietzscheans] think of themselves - probably rightly - as superior to most people, certainly intellectually and physically," he said. "So he holds the entire crew in some sort of contempt. But he needs them, and they have to work together." So far, 'Into The Labyrinth' is the only episode in which Archduke Bolivar makes an appearance, but the possibility is open for Marsters to return to the series. "[The producers] wanted the character to come back, and I would do it," he said, "but my Buffy schedule is so tight that I don't know if it will work out."
